Social psychologists say that workplace envy—experienced by more than half of employees surveyed—reduces productivity because workers withhold information and collaborate less with co-workers. Common perception is that a little workplace competition actually spurs productivity, because you want to do as well or better than your office mate.

For those of you who are used to having a name tag or a badge constantly pinned to you during the work day, consider buying a popular plastic retractable badge reel. This is especially useful for any type of card that needs to be swiped through a scanner, like a credit card. Even outside the office, this retractable badge has many applications in athletics or other recreational activities. This product really protects the integrity of the card being used and also prevents someone from losing it easily.

Furthermore, the added convenience that this badge reel allows is beneficial to anyone that uses it. Your badge can be attached using either a slide type belt clip or what’s known as a locking bar pin. Its best feature is the retractable 23” cord which allows you to keep the reel attached to your possession while you used the card. An added bonus feature is the fact that you can customize your reels with a logo by using epoxy domes or direct printing. The exact diameter of the reel is 1-1/4” with a ¾” aluminum insert for decorative purposes.

My excavation of my past continues in this virtual display culled from a box full of artifacts collected during my middle school years. Exhibit E: Merit badges from my years as a Boy Scout. I think I was more interested in collecting the badges based on how cool they looked moreso that what they represented. Hence, the awesome snake head for my first, the “Rattlesnake Milking” merit badge. I also see a variety of other favorites such as: “FBI Skills”, “Lyre-playing” and “Electrical Tow

Metal badge reels attach to your belt and come with a key ring or cardholder attached to a string or chain.  This string or chain expands or retracts easily and quickly, allowing you keep whatever you want on your belt loop.  The usefulness of a metal badge reel goes beyond just keeping badges.  It actually has several uses that can help a business be more efficient in their general operations.  Here is just a sample of the numerous ways that a heavy-duty steel badge reel can help your company or organization.

Easier To Swipe Cards  – Any large, modern corporation understands how crucial it is to keep tight security.  Besides keeping your employees safe, it also protects you against theft and the very real possibility of corporate espionage.  This is why many companies keep a system very secure of locks controlled by magnetic ID cards that help guarantee only authorized personal have access in and out of a building and certain high security areas.  But it can be cumbersome to remove this ID from a wallet or badge holder and slide it every time, especially if you have to swipe your ID card several times a day.  If you use a metal badge reel instead, you can easily swipe your card without ever having to reach in your pocket.

Keeps Frequently Used Tools Close At Hand  – Some jobs involve using small tools frequently.  If you work in Information Technology for example, you may need to frequently use a phillps head screwdriver to take the covers off of computers, access servers, and insert Ethernet cards.  If you work in maintenance, you may have to constantly refer to a single kind of wrench to loosen and tighten bolts around your company.  But it can grow tiresome, time-consuming, and usually even irritating to have to grab that same tool out of a tool box or your pocket countless times every single day.  If you attach it to your tool to a metal badge reel, you can always have access to it easily.

Makes Keyring Easy to Use – Metal id badge reels are particularly popular with maintenance and janitorial staff, who typically have to have a large key ring that they have to use frequently.  Instead of having a budging sharp clump of keys in their pocket that they have to pull out several times a day, they have those keys conveniently attached to a metal badge reel.

Easier to Show ID to Security – One of the biggest holdups in a company that keeps security well is ID checks.  Every time security personal has to request ID, and the employee has to remove the ID from their wallet or remove their vinyl badge holder, it costs time, and more importantly, productivity.  It can even lead to more lax security checks.  A metal badge reel allows security to closely examine identification without skipping a beat.

Ultra Durable – If you are usuing a badge reel at all, that means that you want to use an item frequently.   That why you should opt for metal badge reels, which are made of rugged steel, and can withstand a lot of abuse and use.

For Labor Day we decided to take an excursion to Muir Woods. Original as this thought may have been to us, a few other people had the same idea, so the woods were only slightly more crowded than your average shopping mall. The week before Christmas. I liked this sign on the path. Wonder if it would work if I posted a big ol’ sign like this declaring the house a quiet zone. Probably not. The interesting thing was, people whispered in the Cathedral Grove anyway. It’s just one of those hushed p
