im thinking of getting a new video card

http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=43_557_558&item_id=028875

but im not sure my power supply can handle it
my power supply – 480W
Video card – 480W

U should have specified what type of power supply do u use.

A 480W PSU with efficiency rating of up to 70% may supply power of up to 330W pure power.

The graphic card ur talking about is HD5570 of Sapphire. It’s a low powered card and most often, card manufacturers tell us to get an overrated PSU to run the card just to be safe because most users don’t understand the power efficiency ratio.

I’m sure that ur PSU is powerful enough.

The last thing anybody in America needs is a National ID Card.

The Wall Street Journal broke the story. The Obama Administration is getting ready to roll out the idea of a National ID Card with your fingerprints embedded in it. The ostensible reason? To try to go after the illegal alien problem.

The problem is, the Democrats don’t see the illegal aliens as a problem. They see them as a supply of fresh voters and fresh Union members.

They are going to suggest that if we have a biometric National ID Card it will solve our national security. It will go after the illegal aliens. But, what I also expect them to sneak into the bill is the same agenda the president talked about when he gave that speech in Guadalajara last year. He wants amnesty and a path to citizenship.

The last thing America should do is reward 12 million people for breaking our laws for the better part of a decade.

Upbeat…

Are you sure you know how to search he WSJ, I found it easy

Odd. In a search of the Wall Street Journal, I couldn’t find anything remotely like this.

hello i want to buy this video card here:

http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0311192

it says u need a minimum of 350 watts on a power supply and 18 amps on 12 volt rail
so i will get this: http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0257451

its what i need for the 9500 gt but it doesn’t have 18 amps on the 12 volt rail.

so do i need a larger amount of watts power supply?
Hey thank you for the very usefull info, but this doesnt have a pci e connector. and the graphics card is a pci e card. so what now?

That power supply will surely run your card, it has multiple 12v rails is why you don’t see 18 amps on just one. But as a warning, that is a horrible price to performance ratio on that psu, you are getting ripped off.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339019

this is a much better power supply at a much better price, and I just found that by quickly browsing newegg.com. you can find ones that are cheaper than that, just make sure they have good reviews. You can always go to an even better one and still stay under your 50$ if your concerned about stability at all.

Easiest way I’ve found to browse them is to click "computer hardware" tab at the top, go to power supplies, then click on the left, power supplies, not server power supplies, and on the right of the screen, click view all power supplies, and then sort them by best rating or most reviews.

Ok I have this computer http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/522089-REG/HP_Hewlett_Packard_GN561AA_ABA_Pavilion_a6230n_Desktop_Computer.html
I want to buy this Graphics Card http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0276270
Note: I didnt touch anything on my new computer except replace the power supply for a 600W.
Do i need anything else?

that card already has a cooler on it

however, you may want to buy a fan and attach it to the side of your PC right next to the video card (drill holes). If you find the computer overheats a lot, then do this, since nothing is more frustrating than spending money on a video card and finding that your computer keeps restarting during games.

Hi. I need to know if this graphics card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

would work with this computer.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8838626&productCategoryId=abcat0501001&type=product&tab=2&id=1210377527204#productdetail

Also, would like to know if I would need a new power supply. The one In that computer is 300W I believe.
Well, will this power supply fit?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339001

Yes it will work, but get a better power supply. The one that comes with it will not be able to handle that card.

Okay here’s my issue I want a new Graphic card to play computer games. The graphic card i have now is only 128mb(model: ATI Raedon x300 series). The new one that i have my eyes on is 512mb which can be found below. I was woundering if my computer’s power supply can handle the graphics card because i have 300W powersupply with….
-Pentium D(dual core)
-3gb
-2 optical drive
-tuner card
-128mb graphic card ( which will be replace with the 512mb if it works)
-2 fans
Does the card requires 300watts for itself or it only needs a power supply of 300watts?

CAN MY COMPUTER HANDLE IT?

Graphic card-

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8526455&productCategoryId=abcat0507002&type=product&tab=2&id=1186007527970#productdetail

-250GB HDD
-6 usb ports ( 4 of them are being use the other 2 ports are only for recharing ipods and mp3)

Yeah that card will work with a 300w PSU, but don’t waste your money on such a terrible card. It’ll perform almost exactly the same as the card you have now. And half of that 512MB will go to waste as the card doesn’t have a 256bit bus…so in reality you’re getting a 256MB card.

At least go for an 8600GT if you want any kind of performance increase.

i have a 300W power supply and i am wondering if this is enough.

Yes that power supply will support your card sense it requires a 300W power supply but will use just 50w

I also know, that I will need to replace the power supply. If so, what kind of powersupply would I need? is the power supply hard to install in a quad core?

If you are already planning to install a graphics card and power supply, then why not go all out and learn how to build a computer for yourself. If you learn how to install a graphics card and power supply, you are basically doing the necessary steps in the process of building a complete system. Just go to you tube and look up things like installing a motherboard, installing a CPU, and spreading thermal paste. You will find many helpful videos. Now I am going to take your $500 budget and maximize it with parts from newegg.com… That system you want from best buy is crap for gaming. 1.8ghz isn’t nothing when you want performance in gaming, why blow your money needing more to begin with…
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121001 case $40 shipped

There you have a complete system for $580 shipped that will run circles around the Best Buy system… Now all you need is graphics card and PSU…
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150337 4850 $120 shipped this is a good card if you want good graphics at only rather high settings such as a 19" monitor up to a 22"…
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102801 4870 1gig ram, $190 shipped
I have a 4870 running on my 61" HDTV and uses 1920×1080 resolution. Plays games on high settings.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817159085 700W PSU $60 shipped
This PSU is a little overkill, but it is at a very good price.
The case I chose is one I own and it can handle a front and rear 120mm case fan and you can remove the bezzle on the side cover and install a 92mm case fan then mount the bezzle onto the case fan to direct air directly to the CPU heatsink.
Read up and learn to build and actually get much more value out of your dollar than letting someone charge you double for your systems value…
If you have any questions feel free to email me…

I’m having trouble making heads or tails of this… I’d appreciate everyones opinion on the matter… Thanks!

NEW YORK — Retiree Gene O’Brien hurried to the World Trade Center site after Sept. 11, 2001, as a volunteer helping to shuttle supplies to police and fire workers. Some days, his only ID to get into the disaster site was a tattoo on his forearm.

"A couple times I showed them my Marine tattoo, and they said go ahead," recalled O’Brien, adding that he and other volunteers also came up with their own makeshift identification cards.

"We didn’t forge anything, we just made them up with our own pictures and at one point we copied a UPC code off a Pepsi can and they were as good as gold," said the Scarsdale resident.

It might not be so easy the next time disaster strikes.

In an effort to provide better control and coordination, the federal government is launching an ambitious ID program for rescue workers to keep everyday people from swarming to a disaster scene. A prototype of the new first responder identification card is already being issued to fire and police personnel in the Washington, D.C., area.

Proponents say the system will get professionals on scene quicker and keep untrained volunteers from making tough work more difficult.

But they also know it is a touchy subject, particularly for those devoted to helping in moments of crisis.

"Wow, how in the world do we say this without love and respect in our hearts?" said deputy assistant U.S. Fire Administrator Charlie Dickinson.

"Everybody wants to come to the fight, so to speak, and no one wants to step back and say ‘No, I can’t do this.’ The final coup de grace was the World Trade Center. Hundreds came that were never asked," Dickinson said. "Good intentions, good hearts, and it was extremely difficult for the fire department and the other departments to deal with them."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency came up with the idea after the World Trade Center attack and Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when countless Americans rushed to help — unasked, undirected, and sometimes unwanted.

Many of those volunteers angrily dispute the notion they were a burden. They insist that in many instances they were able to deliver respirators, hard hats, and protective boots to workers when no one else seemed able.

Ground zero volunteer Rhonda Shearer and her daughter launched a fast-moving supply system that bypassed regular channels, often infuriating city officials.

Even as she delivered box trucks packed with supplies over months of recovery work, she increasingly ended up in a cat-and-mouse game with New York City’s police and emergency management agency.

Shearer, 53, said the experience convinced her that agencies are ill-equipped to handle major disasters — but don’t want outsiders pointing out their failings.

Similar frustrations arose after Katrina, when people were shocked that the government struggled to take basic supplies such as water to the worst areas.

"They’re more worried about keeping volunteers out than doing an analysis of what really went wrong," Shearer said. "Independent citizens need to be involved, where we have no ax to grind or cross to bear. But we will tell the truth, and we will tell what we see and bear witness to the incompetence."

Dickinson, the federal fire official, said the government is not trying to discourage volunteers, but he thinks there should come a time, within a few days of a disaster, when civilians step back and let the professionals take control.

Supporters say the ID cards could be checked at a disaster area with a card-reader device and used to verify a person’s unique skills. For example, if police officers have been trained to handle hazardous materials, officials at the scene could deploy them to an area where their skills would be best put to use.

For reasons ranging from general safety to protection from lawsuits, construction and demolition companies want to see a disaster ID card program succeed.

Mike Taylor, executive director of the National Demolition Association, said his industry is talking with aides to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger about putting it in place in his state.

"If California goes ahead and does that, it will flow across the country. This is a really smart idea by someone in the Bush administration to be able to control access to the site and frankly, make sure there are no untrained people," Taylor said. "If somebody goes running down to the site, you have to stop and ask them, wait, are they certified to do this work?"

Figures California would be the first to sign up for more regulatory activities. Communists love to tell people what they can or can’t do. If a well-intentioned volunteer gets hurt because of his/her own stupidity that’s just too bad. They shouldn’t be allowed to sue anybody, and therefore there would be no liability and no need for such an id. We have become a nation of pussies. (see what I mean? Yahoo communists: little kittens is not a bad word!)

There is absolutely no reason I can see that they won’t work together. I hope your friend also gave you the power supply cables, since it is a very good modular power supply. It will easily run that whole rig.

I have this power supply with 19A each on 3 rails,

http://www.coolermaster.co.uk/product.php?product_id=2573,

and also this graphics card,

http://www.zotac.com/httpdocs/brochures/vga/ZT-20101-10P_GTS-250-512MB_v1.pdf,

The problem is the PC cant even start with it inside, its like trying to start a car with a dead battery. It powers fine without the card. I guess the power supply is weak. Am I right to buy another more powerful power supply, any recommendation for one is welcome. Thanks

The power supply is ample.

Make sure that the additional 8 pin power at the rear of the card is connected properly.

Try swapping rails, I’ve had success with this in the past…
A PSU tester would be useful…

Can you try the card in another PC?
This might put the card in the clear, or mot – as the case may be…

Good Luck!

Where do I get a Proof of Age card OR a Photo ID card from in Sydney, NSW?

I am in my 40’s, so obviously this is not school or uni student related.

I don’t have a drivers licence and I don’t have a passport.

But I need some sort of Photo ID for personal reasons.

I thought the RTA supplied them but according to their website they stopped issuing them in 2008.

I have done a Google search but am just going around in circles.

Can anyone offer guidance?

Thank you.

The NSW Proof of Age card has been replaced by the NSW Photo card and you still get them from the RTA:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/photocard.html

The application form is RTA 1359:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/publicationsstatisticsforms/downloads/45071151.pdf

Simply return the completed form to the motor registry with appropriate proof of identity documents, proof of residential address and the administration fee which is $44.

I have a emahcines with a 250w power supply computer here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9999111700050017&st=emachines&lp=4&type=product&cp=1&id=pcmprd111800050017

and i was wondering what good 512mb video card could i get without upgrading or changing the power supply. maybe a video card that could run cod4 and crysis no problem.

Thank you very much

According to the specs for that system at BestBuy, your Emachines has an available PCIExpress 16x slot for graphics cards.

For a 250-watt power supply, I recommend sticking with a graphics card that draws under 75 watts of electrical power. That means either the nVidia 9500GT or the ATI Radeon HD4670.

Hope this helps.

Hey, I bought a pre-built computer a while ago, I wasnt really for pre-built but the base model was quite decent, with an nvidia nforce mobo, a quad core at 2.66 ghz and 8 gigs of RAM blu-ray 2 SATA hard drives, high definition everything, etc etc all that fun stuff, but the graphics card and power supply seem to be very iffy, The graphics card is called a nvidia geforce 9500GS (Ps the driver failed on me once already and I couldnt fix the problem, nor could a computer technician) and the power supply is a crummy 400W generic that sounds like a boeing, but aside from that, anyone know anything about this card, since it doesnt seem to be anywhere on the internet or the nvidia website. All the reviews i have read about this computer have stated as well, that the rest of the machine is excellent but the graphics card and power supply seem to have been "overlooked". Idk, id just like some help and info on whether an upgrade to a nvidia geforce 9800GT or GTX with a new power supply, and any info on what kind of power supply i should get would be really appreciated..

as well as that, I bought a computer monitor (26.5" samsung) its native res is 1920:1200, but it says it can run in 1080p (idk if 1920:1200 is a better quality then 1080?), yet when I try to it distorts the picture and doesnt scale it properly, could this be the graphics card fault?

Card is junk, this day & age, similar to the 9500gt but with less processing power.

Your card is most likely struggling with a 1080i/p picture/video.

Generally with a well built system you want 500+ watt power supply. Their are many good brands out there, alot of the "cheaper" ones arent ‘true’ wattage so be careful.

Whats the best Graphics card I can upgrade this computer with without upgrading the power supply?

I plan on playing World of Warcraft with it, High settings and smooth framerate. Should I upgrade the power supply for a even better graphics card. I expect to play on a small lcd monitor

i cant tell what the power supply is from the specs of the walmart site but i have a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT which can play ANY game i can throw at it. It is a great graphics card, but it depends on the speed of your processor also. Im not sure with AMD CPU’s but i am very familiar to intel ones. Your AMD processor seems up to the requirements though.

Hello,
I want this video card:

http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0311192

keep in mind its a pci-e card.

So would this power supply work on it:?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339019

Notice in the specs it says the power supply doesn’t have a pci-e connector?

Does that mean i cant use the video card, or is there a way I dont know? Please help.

Thank you very much

Okay, right off the bat I see a problem with that power supply. Aside from not having a pci-e connection it states it doesn’t work with SLI or Crossfire (i.e. Nvidia or ATI). Since you’re wanting to get a GeForce card, which works with a mobo with an Nvidia chipset, you’d need a more up-to-date power supply.

Second – that card uses 18 amps on the 12-volt rail, and according to the specs on that power supply it runs up to 16 or 17 amps, so the power supply you’re looking at isn’t powerful enough to support the card.

My advice – first make sure your mobo has an Nvidia Chipset. Second, spend a bit more and get a better power supply, and check the voltage – you need at least 18 amps on the 12-volt for that card.

I just bought this computer today, it has a 300 watt power supply, and i already upgraded the ram to 8gb. What is the best graphic card that this computer can handle with out changing the factory power supply? I do not plan on buying a better power supply for this desktop.

the owner’s manual should have the information.if not,you could call and ask them.

im looking for a power supply to run a Ati 4890 but i cant find one that has the dual 6pin pci-e connctors that the card requires, i want something not over 100$

here is the card

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/XFX+-+ATI+Radeon+HD+4890+1GB+DDR5+PCI+Express+2.0+Graphics+Card/9566025.p?id=1218125775469&skuId=9566025&st=Ati%205770&cp=1&lp=6

Here you go, all priced under $100 with two 6 pin PCI connectors. For bling value and modular cabling go with Kingwin, for ultra quiet go with the Thermatake. For price and a lil bling value and a neat feature, go with the Apevia. It has blue cables and manually adjustable fan speed controller to help balance between heat and noise.

According to Gateway support for that computer (model DX4200), it has either a 300W, 400W or 500W power supply: http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/DX/DX4200/DX4200sp2.shtml

You should open it up and see which power supply it has. If it already has a 400W or 500W PSU, it should work just fine with the 9800GT and you don’t need to waste money on a new PSU.

Someone told me to get a videocard that draws only about 50 watts. But when i look at video cards it doesnt show how much it draws out. For instance this one

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8990407&type=product&id=1218007083381

how much power does this draw out for an example

The nVidia 9500GT draws a maximum of 50 watts. That wattage number came straight from nVidia’s own website: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9500gt_us.html

Click on the Specifications tab, and scroll down. The "Maximum Card Power" specification is near the bottom.

The 9500GT is the most powerful 50-watt card you can get. I wouldn’t bother with the 8400GS you linked to– It only has 8 stream processors, which is a piece of garbage compared to the 32 stream processors on the 9500GT.

Lots of card makers like XFX, EVGA, etc. all make 9500GT cards.

I asked a question on here earlier about an ex-co-worker and got no answers. It was very thorough.

The bottomline is she had a failed home based business. She opened up a few business credit cards (two office supply stores and a gas card). She owes $1,200 on one of the office supply store cards and the collections agency has been hounding her for payment.

It is my understanding that she opened these cards using her Tax ID Number, and made it a point not to issue a personal guarantee because she didn’t want the business credit to be tied into her personal credit. The credit cards were issued under her business name, or, d/b/a rather (which is the company name).

After several attempts of trying to get her to commit to a payment plan, the collections agency told her they were putting her down as a refusal to pay even though she never said that.

We live in the state of Texas … what is likely to happen to her next? I have no experience with legal laws, etc.
I’d also like to add that she said they were naming off accounts from her personal credit report, and asked why she isn’t able to pay off the debt with them, although everyone else is being paid on time. They also mentioned her ex-husband and asked if he was still employed. They have been divorced for two years now.

Real business accounts do not report to consumer credit bureaus and won’t show on personal credit reports. Business debts have different rules and do not have to comply with the FCRA and FDCPA which govern consumer debt.

That does not mean that collection agencies cannot come after her for payment. It is very unlikely that she got those business credit cards WITHOUT signing a personal guarantee, especially if the business was a dba. I worked for a large national company and the office supply store required someone to sign a personal guarantee to get an account.

If her company was only a dba, she’s still personally liable for the debt. Depending on the collection agency, they may just hound her or sell the debt off to another collection agency or they might sue. If the sue and win a judgment, they would be able to attach your bank account and lien her property. I don’t believe Texas permits wage garnishment.

i have a hpa6120n and my current one is not too good. i think my pc only has 250 watts of psu if someone can plz confirm that. well
i’ve seen this http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9339192&type=product&id=1218102780717 card doesn’t look too bad but it requires 250 watts. should i get a lil more watts or does it matter. and what power supplies from bestbuy actually work for this comp maybe 500+watts.

Well don’t ask strangers to guess about it, carry your computer to Best Buy and ask the the Geek Squad about it. If they say you need a bigger supply, make sure the new one will fit your case.

The only thing I know about Nvidia is you can’t use it with Linux. You have to have Windows.
