To go from Boston to Los Angeles, will a copy of my birth certificate be enough for identification? I have no photo ID to use.
Also, yes, I’m aware of how long the trip is.
um.. it should be

YES IT IS A FORM OF ID, BUT BETTER THAN THAT IS A NON DRIVERS OR DRIVERS ID WITH A PICTURE.

I would just CYA yourself. (Cover your ass) and call Amtrak to ask before buying a ticket. I know I couldn’t fly with a copy, so, call first.

odds are they won’t check. they have never for me and i take the train alot, alot alot. you should try to get a state id if you are old enough for hundreds of reasons they are very easy to get and it will make life easier. but you really shouldn’t have much of a problem. try to bring something else with your name on it like credit cards or a bill and things of that nature.

I am not sure of the security policies for the railways, but you should be able to get a state ID from your local DMV. It is not a driver’s license, there is no test for it, you just need to provide them with the appropriate information. A lot easier to carry that around with you than a birth certificate.

Wow, that might be a long shot, especially seeing as how they cant realy KNOW its you, without a picture…
In this case, if the trip is important to you, I would be getting ready to call the DMV, and scedule an appointment for an ID. This way, you’ll at least have the PAPER COPY w/ picture wen you leave. It will also probly be ready wen you return, so you wont have that issue again.
I know thats probly not what you wanted to hear, but in ADULT life, the Amtrack people, FBI, police, and even a sales clerk, could care less about a piece a paper, without a supporitng picture.
Unless whomever you can talk to @ Amtrack can make a special circumstance for you, I wouldn’t rely on that certificate. Just telling you, from experience…hope that helps!

No. It must be photo ID, as with flying.
