if you book an e-ticket from IRCTC, Online travel agencies or any other travel agent who is using services from IRCTC then you need to carry a valid photo identity card along with your reservation slip. In case of i-ticket, its just a normal ticket booked on counter but gets delivered at your address, there is no need to carry identity proof.

if u book a railway tickets by net banking then require of original ID proof as like photo ID (DL) or (election card)

For an e-Ticket, its mandatory to carry original photo ID card of atleast one of the passengers.

you need to have original photo ID if you are traveling using e-ticket. If you are traveling in a group at least one person should carry original photo id. If you are concerned with tht try to book i-ticket
