This seems like a lot of info to me that I hesitate to give to anyone I don’t know, and was wondering if this is status quo these days.

I had to send in that information when I applied for a Capital One credit card. It was my first card and I didn’t have any credit before than (no student loans, car loans, etc.).

They needed it to verify who I was.

It depends, especially if you have no credit record or have moved recently.

When I moved across the US, I had to since no one could verify that I lived at my posted address.

It’s a new rule (2001) with the Patriot Act that addresses need to be verified.

No, that is not a typical request for card activation.
    Don’t do it!
