Our DMV issues licenses or ID cards with photos. Why are people complaining about a safeguard that seems so obvious.

the technicality is that there is no law that says one must carry ID except for age checking (cigarettes alcohal clubs opening bank accounts and gambling), and driver’s liscence, but there is no law mandating that residents MUST drive or smoke/drink/gamble/have a bank account/ go to clubs etc…what it means is: although having an ID is convinient, you can still live in the states without having an ID legally…cause there is no law that says one must have an ID just to live here, yet everyone is guarenteed a single vote by the constitution…so requireing an ID to vote at the poles without a federal law requiring IDs is unconstitutional.

I think it’s because all of the dead people that mysteriously seem to vote have a hard time obtaining the necessary photo id.

certain party wouldn’t care and would like to do away with that rule since it keeps them from getting illegal votes. Won’t mention the party but other posts will defend their party, see who screams the most. The crook always professes his innocence the loudest! let’s hear it!

The terrorists who went into the towers were legal and had legal drivers licenses. That would n’t change today, so how is it a safeguard?
My mother, never drove, never had a license, and would have regarded it as the enormous pain to get as it would have been for her.
Many city dwellers don’t drive, many elderly don’t keep their licenses up after a certain point and almost all are very careful with their money. You have to remember that if voting is going to become a paid for activity then some won’t be voting, and that’s not going to allow their voices to be heard.
I realize that some may feel that’s tough, that if you can’t afford to vote you haven’t got a stake in the outcome, but that’s not what we are founded on.

Oh, and by the way, forgery is so easy that if it was wanted, all the illegals in the world could have one if thats what your are worried about. The fact is that we have problems getting live citizens into the polling booths, I’m not all that worried about thousands and thousands of illegals turning out for the vote, its just plain paranoid to think that goes on.
I ve been voting for almost forty years, and I’ve never seen my polling places filled with illegals, or people trying to vote more than once. That leads me to believe that there is too much of a fuss about something that dosn’t exist in large enough numbers to truly concern ourselves about.
In fact the worst case of voter fraud I’ve ever seen was in the first G W Bush elections in Fla, and he won.

Some people who aren’t entitled to vote want to do it anyway, and the people they are likely to vote for want them to be able to do so.

At least that is the only reason I can come up with since this ‘elderly don’t have ID’ is bunk. When my 97 year old grandmother died she had fistfuls of ID. You have to, for health care.

And I’d even be ok with exempting those over 75, so long as the age is a date of birth, not an age limit. Those under 75 can get ID.

You have to have it to buy booze or drive or use a credit card.

    Is voting less important?

Justagra, they had overstayed their visas and so were illegal, and had 63 pieces of fake ID amongst them (any one of which could have been used to vote, of course. ID just makes it less easy to vote fraudulently, not impossible.)

It gives Libs another backdoor opportunity for class/ gender/ race warfare….They can claim that eeeevil conservatives want to turn them into non-voting shut-ins, etc. This is the most common sense thing we can do to erase voter fraud nationwide. That’s why the Dems oppose it….Fraudulent votes are an important part of the democrats’ strategy for ’08

  22. STEVEN F Says:

I can’t PROVE the reason, but the only one that makes sense to ME is that the WANT fraudulent voting. Every other reason I have heard fails reasonable analysis. When Georgia tried to pass a photo ID law last year, opponents said it was an unconstitutional ‘poll tax’. Supporters offered to provide voter IDs at NO COST to the voters. Opponents claimed going to the BOE to get the ID was to difficult. Supporters offered to have officials go to the voter to issue IDs. Opponents complained about ‘government officials intruding into people homes.’ When NOTHING will satisfy someone, you have to question the reasons they give.

If you can not show ID to prove you are who you say you are then you should not be voting. voting is too important. I think some politicians want illegal aliens voting, or maybe they bus people in from other states to vote. who knows. certianly seems ridiculous to me.
